Full course description
- Course description: During this self-paced asynchronous course, participants will explore the multiple roles of a virtual instructor. In part one, participants will share ways they build classroom communities in a virtual environment and discuss ways to increase engagement in a virtual environment. The three presences will be explored: social, teaching, and cognitive presence; as well as how to ensure students are engaged with the instructor, with the content, and with each other. In part two, participants will will explore standards and pedagogical approaches to online teaching and learning as a way to self-assess and continually improve their online course development and teaching. These standards will be used as a framework to discuss ways to engage learners and create engaging virtual environments geared towards adult learners. Participants will share examples of what they have tried in their online courses within a shared learning community.
